I spoke with our team leader for the remodel of the DCCS Women’s Clinic this weekend. They’re working hard and doing a great job. They’re putting up drywall this week and expect to finish the remodel in a month! Then we will begin to serve women to whom we have already been introduced, either through our local partners in ministry in the city, or through serving events with the local churches involved. You could think of it as a soft launch. Then, we plan to have a full opening this summer.
When I spoke with Mike, he shared a story with me about experience so far during the remodel. He has become friends with one of the volunteers. As they worked together, they shared their lives and Mike discovered that his friend hadn’t been introduced to Jesus. He had heard some things about Jesus, and had been attending Sunday services, but the message of Jesus and who he really is hadn’t yet sunk in. Mike wasn’t shocked, under or over-ambitious in sharing with his friend. Instead, he simply valued his friend and wanted to introduce Jesus so that he too could experience the joy of the journey with God. Mike asked, “Do you know Jesus?” And that is how his friend’s new life began last week. It came as a good surprise. It wasn’t difficult, but simply came as a gift from God. It is a gift from God to us to introduce someone to grace: the idea that we can’t work for the relationship, but that God freely loves us. It cost Jesus everything. But he wants us to freely receive him. I’m asking myself now, “God, who might you be preparing to introduce yourself to right now?”
